Little Waltz
The Chapterhouse, Gloucester Cathedral
This was a test recording for "Returning" the week before the session. I don't really know how to do video properly so it's out of focus and has a filter on it, but I made up this piece on the spot and it's come out rather nice. I added the string parts back in my studio.

Some of the films are a bit rough around the edges. The brief I provided for each shoot was to simply document the song - either in one live take or with a suitable sequence of edits that supports the audio. Any technical criticism can be levelled at me because I didn't give the film-makers much to go on prior to the shoot. There are shots where the soundtrack doesn't quite match the footage. For me the audio was the priority and the film-makers had to simply do their best with what they shot! It's testament to their skill and patience during the process that the films are as great as they are, any sketchy bits is simply down to us not having sufficient time and budget to plan or choreograph or fix it in the edit!
Chris Watkins
I met Chris when I was working as a lecturer at Stroud College and he was a student on the course I was teaching. It's incredible to see how he has passionately got into film making and grown his business as a videographer. I like the energy Chris brings to a session. I feel like it compliments the way I go about leading the sessions and that he has an easy understanding of what I want to achieve. Chris shot and edited 4 of the sessions and shot additional footage for and finished off "Love Will Remain". He also took photographs at one of them (so Shane could play drums), mentored Nikola a bit during the sessions and stitched the long film together for me.
Barney Witts
Barney and I are part of the freelance music leader team at The Music Works. He has his own media business called Fluxx Films. I'd seen bits and pieces of his film work on other local projects and was impressed so I was pleased when he agreed to shoot and edit for Spaces. He created films for 3 of the sessions. I love the dynamic style, storytelling and well crafted transitions in Barney's films. We've learned a lot from each other over the course of the sessions he's been involved in.
Nikola Jurčáková
Nikola is a film student at the University of Gloucestershire. She came on board for work experience and has carved out an important role for herself in the team. To begin with I asked her to assist Chris and Barney with their film-making briefs - as an assistant or a runner. It became clear to me during the first session that she could bring extra value to the project so I challenged her to be responsible for creating behind the scenes films for each session she was involved in. I also asked her to shoot one of the sessions and we have used her footage blending it with a narrative (shot by Chris) on "Love Will Remain". If I was in a position to offer Nikola a full time job I would, she's that good!
